Our blog Human Rights Here (HRH), rooted in and affiliated with the Netherlands Network for Human Rights Research (NNHRR), is expanding its team by looking for new editors who would like to join its Editorial Board! Human Rights Here was founded on 10 December 2019 with the mission to “support the critical exchange of research, analysis and ideas between scholars and practitioners, as well as other relevant stakeholders, students and the media; to promote strategies resulting in an awareness and culture of human rights”. HRH has since grown its reach significantly, in both the breadth of its content and its readership: As of August 2026, we have 216 total publications by authors from both the Netherlands and from around the world, and a publication frequency of 2-3 blogs per week. 

We are seeking conscientious, critical, competent, reflexive, and principled human rights scholars (of PhD candidacy or higher seniority) and/or practitioners (no seniority requirement); with experience in writing and editing high quality texts in the field of human rights (as law, policy, politics, movement, discourse, education, or otherwise). Just as importantly, we seek new colleagues who will take ownership of our work as we do, communicate clearly and effectively, and will be a good fit to our warm, collegial, trust-based team. We are passionately committed not only to the values and principles of human rights and global social justice; but also to the understanding of human rights communication as a service to society, by creating space and facilitating the effective distribution of human rights research, analysis and ideas - from diverse perspectives and for diverse audiences - with the ultimate purpose of contributing to a culture of (emancipatory) human rights.

The central task of our editors is conducting timely and diligent peer review of blog submissions, in smooth collaboration and communication with other members of the Editorial Board. Editors only have minimal administrative duties, as the bulk of our administration is managed by our invaluable intern(s) employed through the NNHRR and the T.M.C. Asser Institute.  In addition to the core task of peer review, our Editorial Board members have collective and individual duties regarding the shaping of editorial policy and strategy, coordination with our colleagues at the NNHRR and T.M.C. Asser Institute, intern supervision, and occasional outreach. We operate entirely online, and have Editorial Board meetings once every 6-8 weeks. The workload is approximately 2-4 hours per week, depending on the influx of submissions. As with (almost) all peer review work, our work is non-remunerated. 

The mission of Human Rights Here is to contribute to building a culture of human rights within society by building a bridge between academia, practitioners, and other stakeholders. Thus, in addition to scholars of human rights at PhD candidacy of higher levels of experience, candidates with backgrounds in or proximity to human rights practice, policy, litigation, advocacy are all highly welcome. Of all backgrounds, only candidates who can demonstrate excellent writing and editing skills, an excellent command of the English language, and of a deep and comprehensive understanding and knowledge of human rights, will be considered eligible.
